What is SEO?
SEO stands for Search Engine Optimisation, and refers to a range of techniques from the way your web site is constructed to make it search engine friendly, to off site factors such as link building and directory listings, that all add together to improve your search engine ranking.

What is PPC?
PPC stands for Pay Per Click and is a way to advertise your web site within search engine sponsored listings. As the name suggests, each time a viewer clicks on your link you pay a fee to the search engine for the privilege. PPC is a way to get your site seen alongside the top ranked web sites for any given search term by outbidding your competitors for the best position.

What is a URL?
URL stands for Uniform Resource Locator but is mainly used to refer to the exact web site address of a web page or other online object such as an image or document. For example the URL of this page is:
http://www.littledetails.co.uk/faq-frequently-asked-questions.php

What is Social Networking?
Social networking mainly means websites such as Facebook and twitter which allow friends to post messages and keep in contact. From a web promotion aspect, companies can utilize the same sites as promotion tools by including their URL on their own social networking pages.

What is Social Bookmarking?
Social bookmarking makes use of various web sites such as StumbleUpon and Delicious which encourage users to bookmark their favorite sites and pass them on to friends. Encouraging bookmarking of your own pages can be a useful SEO tactic.

What is a Search Engine Spider (also known as a Robot or Crawler)?
This is a computer program that search engines use to crawl or spider the internet looking for web page text to index. Spiders follow the hyperlinks between different web sites, and then the hyperlinks between the different pages within a website, in an attempt to find as many web pages as possible. They then read the words on the page to enable the text on the web pages to be included in the search engine database.

What is a backlink?
A backlink is a hypertext link that points back at one of your web pages. Every single one of your web pages must have at least one link pointing at it to allow search engines to find that page. The more backlinks that point at your website the higher your overall website ranking will be.

What is anchor text?
Anchor text is the part of a hyperlink that is displayed on the screen and can be clicked to activate the link. It is important to put the keywords of the page you are linking to as the anchor text of the link.
