The key to a high ranking website at the top of search engine results for your chosen keyword searches is simply lots of inbound links. But you have to give a reason why other webmasters would want to point a link at you. In some SEO circles this is known as the ‘link bait’.
Essentially, you must ensure that every one of your keyword phrases has its own webpage of unique text content written for this purpose. Although it can be a time consuming process to continually add more and more pages to your website, and it can become repetitive, you must persevere with the task. Only with enough pages of unique content can your website thrive and succeed in the task it was created for, generating more sales.
You must cover all the different combinations and variations of your keywords and phrases. Over time your website will be seen as a resource for your theme and other webmasters will link to your site naturally.
Of course you must also follow the correct and basic SEO practices of ensuring every one of your pages has a keyword rich text link pointing at it, so that the search engines can find and index that page. Your own internal linking strategy should be seen only as the first stage in the link building process. The real power of links will come from the external inbound pointing links you win.
What is even better than using social networking sites to promote your business? Turing your own website into a social networking hub.
What are the benefits of being a social networking hub in your own right?
The main feature of social networking, and the so called web 2.0 is user generated content. Google and the other search engines thrive on unique content. Allow and encourage your users to add their own content, and they will do your job for you, and your search engine presence will be greatly enhanced.
Make sure your website has at least a blog that allows feedback and comments from users, or better still, a forum where users interested in your subject can discuss and write their own posts as your first step into the world of web 2.0.
This will only work if you carve a niche for yourself in your specialist area as the theme of your website. It can be a lengthy process of building your reputation with regular updates and posts to your own blog or forum, but with enough exposure in the search engines you will eventually become a recognised expert in your field, to be sought out by people interested in your subject, and your website can become a place where others come to discuss and swap ideas and information, and you have become your own social networking site.
